Earth Day was set up by American politician and environmentalist, Gaylord Nelson as environmental education. This day was started on April 22, 1970, and today more than 1 billion individuals in 192 nations of the world are observing Earth Day.
The Earth Flag, which was structured by John McConnell, has been portrayed as a “flag for all individuals.” It includes a two-sided colour printed picture of the Earth from space on a dark blue field, produced using recyclable, climate-safe polyester. Margaret Mead accepted that a flag as a banner which demonstrated the Earth as observed from space was suitable.
People around the globe observe this day in various methods like planting trees, cleaning the road waste, directing different projects for spreading the importance of reusing and conservation, and utilizing recyclable containers. TV channels on that day play programs related to ecological issues. In India, lights and other electrical appliances are appealed to put switched-off for at least 30 minutes so that it can conserve electricity.
The theme of Earth Day 2020 is “Climate Action”.
As climatic change is a huge issue for the world now, it is also a vast challenge to curb the situation. Several powerful countries like the United States of America, Russia, United Kingdom, etc. are working on the prevention of climate change but haven’t succeeded yet. This is an environmental issue that has to be solved by every human being on this Earth.
